The ASI TPHA Test for syphilis is a convenient and specific qualitative and semiquantitative microhemagglutination test for the presence of IgG and IgM antibodies to Treponema pallidum, in human serum and EDTA plasma. The assay uses preserved avian erythrocytes coated with antigens of T. pallidum (Nichols strain), which will bind with specific antibodies present in patient’s serum or plasma. TPHA is used as a confirmatory syphilis test. This test requires minimal laboratory equipment and is easy to perform.
