Clinical Significance
IgE antibody is mainly responsible for immediate-type symptoms in allergic individuals. Clinical symptoms of allergy may include anaphylaxis, hay fever, asthma, atopic eczema, dermatitis, urticaria, respiratory distress and rhinitis. An initial cost-effective screen against the most common allergens identifies those individuals most likely to benefit from a detailed allergy investigation.
Principle
The IVT Allergy Screen is an enzyme immunoassay that can detect simultaneously but separately, in a single test, IgE antibodies specific to multiple allergens. The unique device contains allergen-coated segments as well as positive and negative controls. Where there is IgE bound specifically to the surface of any segment, the conjugate triggers a rapid, visually detectable color change from yellow to purple. The rate of development and intensity of the purple color indicate the level of specific IgE antibody.
Interpretation
Results may be visually interpreted or the new IVT Allergy™ Reader Enhanced System may be used for digital enhanced results.
